Rockland?s Meghan Khang performing well at the Gate American Junior Golf championship

Windier conditions today caused some drama on the scoreboard of the Gate American Junior golf championships.?A two-club breeze blew out of the south bringing windier and cooler than expected conditions to the second round of the 54-hole event. The boys are playing from 6811-yards on Ocean Course at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. The girls are playing from 5,825 yards.??There were only three rounds under par today, all coming from the boys tournament.
The cool wind did not stop Sweden?s Victor Tarnstrom from firing the low score of the day, six under par 66.??He climbed to number two on the leaderboard, past World Junior Golf Ranking?s number two player, Cody Proveaux.?Proveaux dropped to third place with a two-over 74 today. Tarnstrom sits five shots back of??WJGR number one player, Poland?s Adrian Meronk, who shot an even par 72 today to remain at 8-under for the tournament.?Germany?s Maxilimillan Mehles shot a three-under 69 to rise to fourth place, just seven off the pace.
On the girls draw, despite the wind, WJGR number four player, Marina Stuetz of Austria, and Jinjuta Thongtan each shot a one-over-par 73.?Stuetz has a one shot lead over Thongtan and a two shot lead over Denmark?s Nicole Broch Larson.?Only seven shots separate the top 10, so tomorrow?s final round sets up for some closing drama.

Local qualifier Jack Comstock, a qualifier from Jacksonville, FL shot an even par 72 to move into the top 10 as the highest ranking local and second highest ranking American behind Proveaux.??Meghan Khang?(left) of Rockland (MA) is the highest-ranking American girl, shooting a 79 today leaving her tied for 9th.??Local female qualifier, Mia Zanghetti, of Ponte Vedra Beach (FL), who just this morning was named First Coast High School Player of the year, battled hard for an 81, spotting her in 18th place.?Comstock and Zanghetti both go to The Bolles School in Jacksonville.
